Pay It Forward 2015

Thank you Mrs. Parker and the Builders Club for all of your preparation for Pay It Forward Day.  My day consisted of taking eight students to the Backpack Ministries run by Son Rise Church.  At Backpack Ministries, we packed meals for roughly 250 Milford elementary students to have over the weekend.  After we finished at Backpack Ministries we picked up litter in surrounding areas.  My group of students were enthusiastic and dedicated.  I am so proud of  these students, what a great opportunity to see them out of the classroom demonstrating how much they care for others.  Below you can find a link to a video showing some of the other ways MJHS paid it forward.

Wrapping up Perseverance

Our study of Perseverance in Unit Three is almost over.  We are wrapping up this unit by writing a paper comparing two characters from novels we have read this year.  In addition, students are studying the life of Helen Keller and her teacher Annie Sullivan.  Students will be performing scenes from The Miracle Worker for their class next week.

Science Fiction will be our next focus.  We will do a brief author study of Ray Bradbury and then move into literature circles.  Students picked their novels for the literature circles at the beginning of 3rd quarter and have been anxiously awaiting to get started reading them.

Weather and Atmosphere

Students have been studying Weather and Atmosphere this quarter and it has definitely been a hands on experience! The water cycle put us out of school for a week. Local weather maps were full of “precipitation green” and crazy warm fronts bringing in 70 degree temps. Earth and Space will wrap up just as the Spring season arrives and we will round out the year with Ecology.

#MeanStinks

Check out Keenan West's new song "Everybody Come On (It's On Us)"
One of my former students plays a role in the video.  I am so proud of the young lady she has become.

Goal Setting

Olweus Responses from Mrs. Moore’s ACE

Why is it important to set goals?
  • It is important to set goals because then you can try to achieve the goal.
  • It is important to set goals because it gives you the chance to do something that you want to do.
  • It is important to set goals because then you have something to strive for. If you have high goals for yourself you can accomplish more. Also, if you have goals set, you will work harder towards it.
  • Setting goals is important because if you set goals, it will break work into smaller parts.

Why are team goals important?
  • You can make bigger goals because there are more people.
  • With team goals many people are striving for the same thing, but in personal goals only one person is striving for the goal.
  • In a group you work together and when you work together you can achieve higher goals and harder goals.

how does team goals drive individual goals?
  • Your team goals drive individual goals by maybe inspiring you to achieve your individual goals.
  • Your team goals drive your individual goals by having someone work with you and help you reach your goals.
  • Team goals drive your individual goals because the team goal could be part of your individual goal  and since you have already done part of your individual goal you want to do the rest.
  • Team goals drive my individual goals because my teammates encourage me to try harder for my own goals.

How might team goals conflict with individual goals?
  • My individual goals might conflict with the team goals because to reach my goals, I may need to practice them so I might have to miss out on something with the team. Or, team goals might be different than mine, and that might be a conflict because the team is working towards theirs.
  • Your individual goals have a conflict with team goals because your individual goal is what you want to achieve and team goals are goals for the whole team.
  • Team goals may conflict with individual goals because everyone may not agree with the goal they are trying to achieve.
  • Your individual goals may conflict with the team goals because if your goal is to bad, unkind, and disruptive but everyone elses’ goal is to listen and be quiet then the goals could interfere in a bad way.
